SOBRE

Italo Almeida (1996, São Paulo) lives and works in Belo Horizonte. He is a visual artist, filmmaker, and photographer whose practice encompasses tableau photography, cinema, and multimedia installations.

Currently, his work investigates the surrealism of daily urban life through staged imagery, using spaces of popular gathering as a research field to map social cartographies. His conceptual framework explores aesthetic codes produced by marginalized populations and communities experiencing socioeconomic displacement.

His films have been selected and awarded at festivals such as the Sixth Borough Film Festival (Manhattan University), Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ International Film Festival, Black Harvest Film Festival, FestCurtas, CineBH, Offcine, among others.

A resident at LAB Cultural BDMG (2020) and a two-time recipient of the BH Nas Telas Award (2021, 2024), Italo participated in the 30th Mostra de Arte da Juventude at SESC Ribeirão Preto, which later toured to São Paulo. Recently, the artist exhibited his work at the Belém Museum of Art (MABE) during COP 30.

He was selected for the 8th edition of the Bolsa Pampulha residency (2022) and the FAAP Artistic Residency in São Paulo (2023). Internationally, he completed artistic residencies with Art Africa Magazine and the "New Futures Collective" program in Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa (2025). He also completed an artistic residency at the Museu da Inconfidência in 2025.

His most recent work, Ruídos se organizam (Noises Organize Themselves) — opening in August 2026 at the Museu da Inconfidência in Ouro Preto — brings spatial and historical logics of power into an intimate realm shaped by archives, memories, and sound experiments. These developments, inspired by sound and active listening, investigate how systems of control and colonial narratives are first encountered, echoed, and tensioned on an intimate, sensory scale.
